The death of a child is a traumatic event that can have long-term effects on the lives of grieving parents. On an average, even many years following the death of a child (no matter what the age) bereaved parents have been diagnosed with depressive symptoms, poorer well-being, and more health problems and were more likely to have experienced a depressive episode and marital disruption than were comparison parents.
Healing from grief is never ending. Bereaved parents lose their sense of life purpose even though other children are present in the family. Cause of death or the amount of time since the death has nothing to do with recovery. The pain and despair a grieving parent feels also results from losing friends after the death of a child.
Wings of Hope Living Forward provides these Retreats and local workshops to bring Grieving Parents together to give them a sense of hope, healing, companionship and support.
